Act I
Capello, the head of the Capulet family, refuses to accept the peace pact in which his daughter Juliet would marry Romeo from the Montague family and orders his daughter to marry Tebaldo at once. Romeo (or actually Romea) does not succeed in persuading the desperate Juliet to elope with her and thus she and her followers enter the city in disguise and disrupt her marriage banquet to Tebaldo.

Act II
Lorenzo, the family doctor, tells Juliet that the only way to secure her freedom from Tebaldo is to take a sleeping draught that will give the impression that she is dead. Lorenzo promises her that he will bring Romeo to the family grave vault where she will wait for her as she revives from the effect of the draught. But Lorenzo is not able to inform Romeo of this plan in time. Romeo, believing Juliet to be dead, arrives at Juliet’s grave and takes poison. As she is dying, Juliet awakes and both realize the horrible truth. After Romeo dies, Juliet kills herself as well. Lorenzo rushes in but he is too late and all he can see is Romeo and Juliet lying dead in each other’s arms.
