Was born in New York and has directed numerous operas in Israel including Wozzeck (Berg) for the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, America (Shlomo Gronich) and Die sieben Todsnden (Weill). He directs regularly in leading opera houses around the world and his productions include Fidelio (Beethoven) at the Metropolitan Opera, Simon Boccanegra (Verdi ), Mazeppa (Tchaikovsky) and Tristan und Isolde (Wagner) at the English National Opera, Elektra (R.Strauss) for Welsh National Opera, Tannhuser (Wagner) for the Bavarian Staatsoper in Munich, Faust (Gounod) for the Vienna Volksoper and many others.
