Chris Merritt, tenor, was born in the USA. His vast repertoire included a huge array of lyric tenor and bel canto tenor roles. In the last decade he has focused on German, Slavic and contemporary repertoire including Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Aegisth in Elektra (R. Strauss), the title role in Oedipus Rex (Stravinsky), the title role in Dimitrij, the Prince in Rusalka (Dvorak), Tichon in Katja Kabanova (Janacek), Aron in Moses und Aron (Schoenberg), Loge in Das Rheingold, Erik in Der fliegende Hollander (Wagner), Mephistopheles in Doktor Faust (Busoni), the Witch in Hansel und Gretel (Humperdinck) and many others. He has performed regularly in all leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna Staatsoper and the opera houses of Paris, San Francisco, Chicago, Venice, Naples, Munich, Dresden, Barcelona, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Rome, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Nice, Zurich, Geneva and many others.
